Role of women in Pakistani society and strong population of Pakistan
Success in Pakistan is normally associated with being rich by the society at large and rightly so to an extent because the populace believes that being a financial success forms a major chunk of the general definition of the term “success” but there are instances where having a lot of money is not the only thing that counts.
Although the list is limited, still, there are a number of women in Pakistan who are termed as a success in Pakistani society. Some however may refer to the strength of the list as being negligible since women comprise almost fifty percent of the total one hundred and seventy million strong population of Pakistan. Nevertheless, the role of women in Pakistani society has increased manifold over the years with the quota for their representation in the National Assembly being increased substantially and many of them serving at key positions.
After Benazir Bhutto, better known as daughter of the East, serving as the first woman Prime Minister of a Muslim country and of Pakistan, others have taken the lead ever since she was assassinated. Notably, Dr. Fahmida Mirza, who is currently serving as the speaker of the National Assembly and is the first woman in Pakistan to serve the country in such a capacity. Also, for the first time, Pakistan has a female Foreign Minister: the flamboyant Hina Rabbani Khar dubbed HRK better known for her expensive handbags!
After a female in Pakistan successfully became a commercial pilot in the National Flag Carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), for the first time in its history, the Pakistan Air Force [Pak-Fizaya] has inducted G.D. Pilots, General Duties Pilots or fighter pilots into its fighting force.
